Brent and Hedy are the founders of Tango Caminar, a tango school and performance/event organization in Victoria, BC. They are teachers and performers of Argentine Tango. They host and DJ a tango dance (called a Milonga) Fridays at 9 pm at the Cafe Casablanca, 2524 Bridge Street, Victoria BC. They present special events such as inviting guest teachers from Buenos Aires and around the world to perform and give workshops in Victoria, and arranging for live tango orchestras to play. Brent and Hedy are also founding members of Victoria's non-profit Argentine tango dance and live music society, Tango Pacifico.
Brent and Hedy were captured by the passion and sensuality of Argentine Tango in 1998 and embarked on an intense exploration of this art form, devoting more than 15 hours each week
(roughly 10,000 miles of Tango) to what has become an all-consuming addiction. They have danced tango in Buenos Aires and around the world.Hedy is classically trained and has been a professional ballerina; Brent came to Argentine Tango via the ballroom world. Their teachers included some of the best in the world, such as Pablo Veron and Fabian Salas (stars of the movie "The Tango Lesson"), Miriam Larici and Hugo Patyn, Milena Plebs and Ezequiel Farfaro ( all stars of the Broadway show "Forever Tango"), Eva Lucero and Patricio Touceda (now touring with "Forever Tango"), Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida, Julio Balmaceda and Corina De la Rosa, Nito and Elba (respected veterans of the golden age of tango), Cacho Dante (specialist in milonguero style tango), Eduardo Saucedo (teacher and performer at CITA, the biggest tango festival in Buenos Aires), Celine Ruiz and Damian Rosenthal (young nuevo tango performers at CITA, now living in Paris), Homer Ladas (perhaps the foremost American tango innovator), Nestor Ray, Omar Vega, Miguel Pla, Rebecca Schulman and Brigitte Winkler of Berlin, Metin Yazir of Istanbul, as well as established local teachers such as Tony Fan and Ilana Rubin of Seattle and Semiral Tuncer of Vancouver. The Argentine Tango is the original tango from Buenos Aires. It is improvisational in nature, like jazz, and can be a deep emotional experience in the moment. It is a living ever-evolving art form and has a vast musical repertoire from 1890s to today. Brent and Hedy and their Tango Caminar Teaching Team guide students into this realm in their group and private lessons and Milongas in Victoria BC in the spirit of creative freedom.
