TEN YEARS OF TANGO WEEKEND
Sept. 14-16, 2007

It was the TEN YEARS OF TANGO WEEKEND on SEPTEMBER 14-16.
This hugely successful and exciting event celebrated the Argentine Tango's arrival in Victoria and honoured its local pioneers.

Special guest teachers TONY AND ILANA came from Seattle to teach and perform.

Live band, recording artists TANGO PARADISO, featuring composer/bandoneon virtuoso DOUG SCHMIDT, played at a GRAND BALL at the EDELWEISS CLUB in James Bay on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15. DJ DAVID between band sets.

Organizers DAVID AND DIANE deserve all our thanks for their inspired leadership and long months of hard work in staging this event.

Tango and Film

Sign up for a fascinating exploration of tango in film, with Victoria scholar and tanguera Kitty Hoffman, PhD. Kitty is giving a course with UVic's Continuing Studies, on Mondays running from Nov. 5 to 26, 7-9 pm.

"What distinguishes Hollywood tango from its Argentine origins? What is tango's enduring appeal for filmmakers? What has it symbolized for different filmmakers?
What can we see of changing social morals through the use of tango in film, and through the historical changes in tango itself?"

Garufa Memories

It was the dream tango weekend - the El Weekend de Garufa - the high-passion-octane Trio Garufa, and endlessly inventive teacher Homer Ladas and his enchanting, gifted Argentine partner Andrea Fuchilieri. And a very big happy gang of dancers from near and far, our own musicians (and guest vocalist from Vancouver) jamming with the Trio, a wonderful unforgettable time, thanks to Tango Inspiracion and other community volunteers and the Cafe Casablanca in Victoria BC.
